Clubs rally to defend Cup

SCOTTISH clubs are hoping to defeat a key proposal to scrap the Cup being put forward by SRU officers at the union’s AGM this Friday.
The controversial motion, being put forward by the SRU’s President and Chairman on behalf of the SRU Board and Council, calls for the Cup to be ‘suspended’ next season and for a new club rugby structure to be devised by the Scottish Rugby Council, for introduction in 2010. However, both have raised considerable doubts and opposition among clubs and supporters.

The rallying call to oppose the Cup proposal comes from the Forum of Scottish Rugby Supporters (FOSRS), a rugby fans organisation with 1,500 supporters, who were concerned by the loss of a successful competition and what seemed questionable thinking behind it.

IRFU in call to exonerate Nathan

SCOTTISH ANGER over unproven allegations by former Irish coach Eddie O’Sullivan against Nathan Hines could be resolved, if the IRFU agrees to take an honourable course of action being proposed.

O’Sullivan’s repeated claims of violent and dangerous conduct by Nathan Hines against Ronan O’Gara in last year’s 6 Nations clash were blown out of the water recently when O’Gara finally admitted, a year later, that no such incident had taken place.

FOSRS has now written to the IRFU President inviting his union to issue an overdue apology to the Scottish player for the wrongful and harmful allegations by their ex-employee.
